The most infamous case from The First 48 officially came to a close over a week ago..
When Detroit Officer Joseph Weekley escaped conviction yet again..when a Wayne County prosecutor decided that the lesser charge: Careless discharge of a firearm, in the death of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones in 2010 will not result in a third trial. ( The previous ones in 2013 & 2014 ended in mistrials )

Weekley getting off scott free appeared to be the inevitable outcome since this case began, due to Weekley..the police department and Allison Howard, who had control of the footage shot for The First 48…being more concerned about protecting themselves & shifting the blame.
Immediately pointing the finger at Aiyana’s grandmother, Weekley claimed she reached for his gun as she and Aiyana slept on the couch during a police raid that went totally wrong. Aiyana was shot in the head with Weekley’s gun.. while the police were looking for Chauncey Owens (who later surrended & confessed to murder)
It’s no surprise that cases like this underline the negative feelings many have towards the police because they can kill you…even if they think you are doing something wrong & never be held accountable.
